Nov. 26, 2011
Dear Region 8 Members:
Convention Report - The AHA Officers remain the same for another year. There were 15 resolutions. 5-11, 12-11 & 14-11 passed as originals. 1-11, 2-11, 6-11, 7-11, 9-11, and 15-11 passed as amended. 8-11 was disapproved. The rest were withdrawn. The East/ West rotation passed for Sport Horse Nationals so the next SHN will be in Nampa, Idaho Sept. 19-23, 2012. It will then rotate back and forth with Lexington, VA as the other site. It is proposed that the youth age will change to 18 & under. However, that must be approved by USEF so stay tuned for the results. Convention will be in Denver next on Nov. 14-17, 2012. Convention will then move to Lexington, KY for 2013 and then back to Denver for 3 years. There were 266 delegates out of a possible 486 that were eligible. The paper work is completed to make the Sweepstakes Trust a 501 (c) 3 and will be filed ASAP. A presentation was given regarding the Arabian Horseman Disaster Fund (AHDF). This is a 501 (c) 3 set up to help horseman in our community. Your donations are tax deductible. AHA also has its own Foundation to benefit research, scholarships, horse disasters, etc. You might want to consider these funds as a benefit for your show or activity. It was reported that Region 8 and Region 6 had the most One Day shows for 2011. This format seems to meet the needs of several groups. The AHA BOD voted to support a matching fund for promotion of our Arabian horses. Watch for the info from AHA as this might help you in your promotional efforts through your club or farm. The Region 8 delegates came prepared and represented us well. Thanks to each of them.
Region 8 Report - The Region 8 officers will remain the same. With the loss of over $11,000 from our main ring and sport horse 2010 shows, our 2012 budget is bare bones. Remember that Sport Horse Regionals will be combined with the Zia Classic in Albuquerque, NM beginning on May 10th with qualifying classes followed by the Region 8 SH classes. The schedule will be out shortly. I know that CAHC Spring Show (May 4-6) and the Tulsa show will have SH classes. As other shows finalize their schedules, please let me know if you will be offering Sport Horse classes. I'll pass it along so you will know where you can get qualified for SHN in Nampa in Sept.
The Region 8 Show Main Ring will be June 5-9. The classes will start on Tues. afternoon similar to the schedule for last year. We are moving the delegate meeting to Friday during lunch. We hope this will be more convenient for the delegates and members. For 2012, Liz Wheeler will be working with the show patrons and Deb Ludington will be handling the corporate sponsors. The show commission is working on the schedule. Please contact Jim Porcher if you have any special needs for the schedule (505) 228-6865.
I have appointed the following individuals to serve Region 8 for 2012: Budget & Finance Committee - Jim Porcher, Fred Metcalf and John Simmons, Audit Committee - Liz Wheeler, Laura Cunico and Misty McGinnis. Thanks to each one for serving their region.
Please remember that we agreed that the Region 8 webcast would be used to promote events within our boundaries that are beneficial to our member clubs. So, please share what you are doing in your areas and we will get the info out to our members.
Also, please check the AHA website to make sure that your club information is up to date with the correct officers and their contact information. The Market Development and Promotion Committee has produced several downloadable booklets on ideas for events within your club to help build and retain membership. Check it out and have fun!
Hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season. Look forward to working with you in 2012.
Regards,
Cynthia M Richardson Region 8 Director |
